Restoration

After initial enthusiasm, the project soon came to a standstill and was resumed after the move to the new warehouse with the necessary vigor.  It also turned out quickly that this project will not be completed in 1-2 years, as initially thought.
But the project remains a restoration in which as much original substance will be preserved as possible and it won’t become a new build.
Many tasks arise just when you are in the middle of the whole pojcet and there is actually no way back!
So the list of “planned jobs” became one of “urgent” and “would like to have” jobs and they getting longer and longer!

  • Strip out all interior
  • Doghouse dismount /new
  • Engine dismount / refurbish/ new install
  • Engine base new
  • Floors new
  • Frames some main ones out of grown oak and some smaler steamed ones need replacing
  • Keel & Ballast dismount, rust removal, preserve
  • Keelbolts new (Bronze)
  • Deadwood new
  • Planking repairs and renew
  • Butt joints will be removed by scarfing pices in
  • Stem needs a repair on topside
  • Covering boards repair
  • Caulking to be removed /re-caulking
  • Electrics / Navigation / Pantry
  • Interior fitting including a new bath room
  • Diesel-, Water- and Sewage tanks cleaning & installation, new hose, fittings, vales, filter, vents, ….

The biggest challenge in the upcoming restoration is the complete renewal of the corroded metallic joints throughout the hull. The planks were initial nailed with galvanized iron nails and countless iron bolts in frames, knees and floors, but these are almoast coroded to needle size after a good 30 years.
Only the original bronze fastenings of the teak planking are still in TOP condition! That makes you think, or? .
The planking will be fixed with treenails/trunnels (black locust), bronze screws / bolts and copper rivets.
